Introduction: We are presently in the era of Evidence-Based Dental practice. Dental research is an important component of the same. The type of article being published will provide the research evidence on which the clinical practice will be based. The present study was conducted with the aim to investigate types of articles being published in international prosthodontic journals.

Methodology: Bibliometric analysis was performed using PUBMED. 3 international journals which publish articles exclusive to prosthodontics and were indexed in MEDLINE since 2000 were considered for the study. A search was conducted for articles from each journal. Filter was applied to show articles from 2000 to 2019 i.e. past 20 years. Subsequent filters were applied for each type of study. Data was analysed with Excel and represented using appropriate tables and graphs.

Result: Most of the journals showed a steady rise in the number of review/systematic review/meta-analysis being published over the past 20 years. Journal of prosthetic dentistry published 39 such articles in the year 2019. 2.5% of articles published in the International Journal of Prosthodontics were case reports in 2000 which increased to 7.2% in 2019. For the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, it was 14.2% in 2000 which decreased to 2.2% in 2019. For Journal of Prosthodontics, it was 7.6% case reports in 2000 and the numbers were steady till 2019 i.e. 3.8%.

Conclusion: The evidence pyramid holds Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis at the top. They provide higher level of evidence but the number of such publications is supposed to be minimal. The Base of the evidence pyramid is case reports but numerous just articles will be published. Study the type of article published in the journals by type will not only help up understand the trend in research evidence generation but also help us decide which journals are more likely to accept which type of study.
