Introduction: Correct iris positioning is vital for accomplishment of a natural and aesthetic appearance in an ocular prosthesis. Various methods have been documented in the literature for iris positioning which vary from the use of a pupillometer, an ocular locator and fixed caliper, plastic strip template, a Boley's gauge, inverted anatomic tracings, window light or light reflection viewed symmetrically in the eyes or latest methods like use of computer aided design or optical scanning technique. Each method mentioned above either lacks in their ease of use, convenience or accuracy and predictability. They are not universal in approach.
Methodology: Ocular impression is obtained with the help of a syringe and a conformer. The cast was poured using double pour technique followed by wax pattern fabrication. Iris positioning was achieved with help of this customizable iris positioning tape which is patient friendly, easy to develop and helps in achieving an accurate and pleasing appearance. Post iris positioning wax pattern is invested, dewaxed, packed, cured and finished and polished before insertion.
Conclusion: Iris positioning tape is a new innovative technique that is simple to use, patient friendly and helps in achieving aesthetically pleasing and accurate prosthetic outcome with good patient satisfaction and acceptance.
