Introduction: With advances in research, various digital means like intraoral optical scanners and CAD-CAM have been used for fabricating complete denture prosthesis. These techniques reduce the number of patient appointments, and aid the clinician to virtually design the prosthesis. However, it is not cost effective and therefore not affordable by many clinicians in developing countries like India.
Methodology: This report describes the use of the novel 3D printed stock trays incorporating two pair of detachable tissue stoppers and modified flange design in fabrication of complete denture. This permits the clinician to perform the primary impression, border molding, secondary impression as well as jaw relation in a single appointment. Low fusing compound was used for making primary impression which was dislodged from the stock tray via petroleum jelly coated cling film. This compound custom tray enabled the border molding procedure and wash impression. Prefabricated occlusal rims made in specially designed silicone molds, were able to easily adapt onto the cameo surface of these compound trays due to the imprinted stopper design of the stock tray base. Additionally, a universal teeth arrangement template was used to objectively delineate the tooth positioning on the record base.
Conclusion: The technique would be beneficial for medically compromised geriatric patients especially with neurological or neuromuscular disorders, who cannot manage multiple visits in a dental clinic. Additionally, the esthetics can be further enhanced as per the recurrent esthetic proportion (RED), using the universal teeth arrangement template.
